Wales football captain Bale announces end of playing career

Former Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has announced his retirement from football.

Bale had previously signed a one-year deal with MLS team Los Angeles FC, with the option to extend it until 2024, but he has now decided to end his career.

Bale played an important role in Real Madrid’s success during his nine seasons with the club, scoring 106 goals in 258 appearances in all competitions.

He won three La Liga titles and five Champions League titles, and was instrumental in leading Wales to the World Cup in 2022, their first appearance since 1958.

Despite a tumultuous ending to his time at Real Madrid, Bale’s contributions to the team were significant.
