In an extraordinary Ligue 1 match on Sunday, Lionel Messi scored a stunning free-kick in the 95th minute to secure a 4-3 win for Paris Saint-Germain against Lille. Despite Kylian Mbappe scoring twice, Neymar was taken off on a stretcher with a potential ankle injury.

Messi’s decisive goal came after PSG had surrendered a two-goal advantage and fell 3-2 behind. Mbappe later scored a late equalizer, setting the stage for Messi’s game-winning strike.

The victory ends PSG’s three-game losing streak and moves them eight points clear of second-placed Marseille. Marseille will visit Toulouse later before hosting PSG next weekend.

However, the injury to Neymar is a concern for PSG, with the Brazilian player in tears as he was carried off early in the second half.

The team’s focus will now shift to Neymar’s fitness, as he may not be available for the upcoming game against Marseille or the second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich in March.

Lille, who were aiming to recover from a 1-0 home loss to Bayern in the first leg of their Champions League tie, took an early lead through Mbappe, who returned from a thigh injury to make his first start. Neymar quickly doubled PSG’s lead against Lille, whom they had beaten 7-1 in their previous encounter in August.

However, Bafode Diakite pulled one back for Lille midway through the first half. After Neymar was carried off, Lille drew level when Jonathan David converted a penalty. Jonathan Bamba then gave the away side the lead with a spectacular finish, leaving PSG on the brink of their fourth straight loss.

Mbappe, with his 27th goal of the season in all competitions, equalized with just three minutes remaining, setting the stage for Messi’s match-winning free-kick, which hit the post before crossing the goal line.
