Real Madrid has triumphed in the 2024 UEFA Champions League Final, securing a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Carvajal and Vinicius Seal Victory for Real Madrid

In a thrilling encounter, Real Madrid triumphed once again in the UEFA Champions League Final. At the 74th minute, Carvajal headed in a Toni Kroos corner, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

Shortly after, Vinicius Jr. fired a shot into the corner of the goal, further cementing Madrid’s status as the most successful club in the competition’s history.

Madrid’s Dominance Continues

With this latest victory, Real Madrid has now won six of the last eleven European Cup finals. Despite being under pressure, the Spanish giants relied on a mix of skill and luck. Borussia Dortmund, their opponents, regretted missed opportunities in the first half. Niclas Füllkrug hit the post, and Karim Adeyemi failed to score in a one-on-one situation against Thibaut Courtois.

UEFA Champions League Final: A Game of Two Halves

Real Madrid often finds a way to win in Europe’s elite competition. Carvajal admitted, “They were superior in the first half but we made it out alive.” This resilience was on display as Madrid created more history in London. Carvajal and Kroos have now matched Real legend Paco Gento’s record of winning the European Cup six times. Carlo Ancelotti’s fifth title also extends his record as the most successful coach in the competition’s history.

Security Tight at Wembley

More than 2,500 stewards were present at Wembley, aiming to prevent a repeat of the violent scenes from the Euro 2020 Final. Despite these measures, three pitch invaders entered the field within the first few minutes, one even taking pictures with Vinicius and Jude Bellingham. The Metropolitan Police reported 53 arrests, including five for pitch invading.

Borussia Dortmund Missed Chances

Ancelotti was confident before the match, describing himself as “like a lion” after a pre-match siesta. However, his team was sluggish in the first 45 minutes, with Dortmund dominating. Courtois, making his first Champions League appearance of the season, was instrumental in keeping Real Madrid in the game. Dortmund’s best chance came when Adeyemi, outpacing Carvajal, was through on goal but could not beat Courtois.

UEFA Champions League Final: Turning the Tide

In the second half, Real Madrid found their rhythm. Kroos almost scored from a free-kick, forcing a stunning save from Gregor Kobel. Jude Bellingham, a former Dortmund player, nearly scored against his old club but missed Vinicius’ teasing cross. The breakthrough came when Carvajal headed in Kroos’ corner, putting Madrid ahead. Bellingham later set up Vinicius for the final goal, securing Madrid’s victory.
