Real Madrid Climbs to Top of La Liga After Late Comeback Win

Real Madrid came from behind to defeat Las Palmas 2-1 on Saturday, thanks to a late header from Aurelien Tchouameni on his birthday. The win sends Real Madrid to the top of La Liga, two points ahead of Girona.

Las Palmas took the lead early in the second half through Javier Munoz, but Vinicius Junior equalized for Madrid in the 65th minute. Tchouameni then scored the winning goal with a header from Toni Kroos’ corner six minutes from time.

The win was a welcome relief for Real Madrid, who were without leading goalscorer Jude Bellingham due to suspension. Brahim Diaz and Dani Ceballos started in midfield in Bellingham’s absence.

Las Palmas, promoted to La Liga this season, have exceeded expectations under manager Francisco Garcia Pimienta. They gave Real Madrid a tough game, especially in the first half.

The game was a clash between the division’s best two defenses, but the stalemate was broken early in the second half when Munoz scored for Las Palmas.

Dani Carvajal had a goal ruled out for offside before Vinicius equalized for Madrid. The Brazilian winger made up for an earlier missed chance by scoring from a tight angle in the 65th minute.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti brought on Arda Guler and Tchouameni in search of a winner. Tchouameni delivered with a superb header from Kroos’ corner six minutes from time.

The win was Real Madrid’s fourth in a row in La Liga. They will look to extend their winning streak when they host Villarreal next Saturday. Las Palmas, meanwhile, will be hoping to bounce back when they travel to Celta Vigo next weekend.
