Real Madrid beat Valencia 2-0 but Benzema off injured
Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Valencia in La Liga, despite Valencia being reduced to ten men.
Luka Modric nearly set up an early goal for Real Madrid with a great through ball to Marco Asensio, but Asensio’s shot was saved by Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Gabriel Paulista, ex-Arsenal defender, later prevented Asensio from scoring with a diving block.
Eduardo Camavinga also came close, but his shot hit the side netting. A potential first-half goal by Antonio Rudiger was disallowed by VAR due to a Karim Benzema foul.
In the second half, Asensio finally broke the deadlock with a shot into the top left corner.
Soon after, Vinicius Junior added another goal, side-footing into the right corner.
Valencia’s Paulista was then sent off for a vicious kick on Vinicius Junior.
