Memphis Depay joins Atletico Madrid from Barcelona

Dutch international Memphis Depay has moved from La Liga club Barcelona to Atletico Madrid for a fee of £2.6m.

He has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Wanda Metropolitano side and will be officially presented as an Atletico player on Friday evening.

Depay had previously joined Barcelona on a free transfer and scored 13 goals in 36 appearances, but recently fell out of favor due to the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.

This season, he has only played four times, with rumors of club officials accusing him of delaying his return from injury in order to be fit for the World Cup.

Despite interest from Newcastle United and former club PSV Eindhoven, Depay has chosen to join Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Reports suggest the deal includes an option for Barcelona to sign Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco in the future.
