Mbappe misses two penalties before injury as Lionel Messi

Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 victory over Montpellier in Ligue 1 was overshadowed by Kylian Mbappe’s early exit with a possible hamstring injury.

Mbappe limped off the field after just 21 minutes, causing concern for PSG’s fans just two weeks before they face Bayern Munich in the Champions League last 16.

Despite Mbappe’s absence, the game result wasn’t affected as Fabian Ruiz, Lionel Messi, and Warren Zaire-Emery scored in the second half.

However, Mbappe still had an eventful night, even though he was on the field for less than a quarter of the game.

Mbappe had his 9th minute penalty saved by Montpellier’s keeper Benjamin Lecomte, but VAR ruled that Lecomte came off his line too soon.

However, Mbappe missed the second penalty as well, with Lecomte denying him again. Then, 10 minutes later, Mbappe went down clutching his hamstring.

VAR disallowed a goal by Messi before halftime, and another by Achraf Hakimi eight minutes after the break.

But PSG took the lead with a goal by Ruiz, assisted by Vitinha, Hakimi, and Mbappe’s replacement, Hugo Ekitike. Ruiz then set up Messi’s goal with a perfect pass, and Messi effortlessly scored past Lecomte.

Montpellier scored in stoppage time, and almost equalized moments later, but Zaire-Emery, 16 years old, sealed the deal to become PSG’s youngest ever scorer.

However, the main concern for coach Christophe Galtier is whether Mbappe will be fit to face Bayern when the Champions League returns to the Parc des Princes on Valentine’s Day.
