Bayern Munich sign Daley Blind on free transfer
Bayern Munich has signed former Ajax defender Daley Blind on a free transfer until the end of the season.
Blind, a 32-year-old Netherlands left-back, cancelled his contract with Ajax in December, six months before it was set to expire.
A product of the Ajax academy, Blind made 333 appearances for the Dutch club in two stints and has 99 caps for the Netherlands national team.
He played in all of the Netherlands’ matches during their run to the World Cup quarter-finals in Qatar. Blind also played for Manchester United from 2014 to 2018.
Bayern’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, said that Blind is a “flexible defender” with “extensive international experience and leadership qualities” and will be a valuable addition to the team.
Blind expressed excitement at the opportunity to play for Bayern, saying that the club’s hunger for titles was a key factor in his decision and that he hopes to use his experience to help the team.
