The Spanish side controlled the tempo from the first whistle, and their efforts were rewarded when Mikel Merino broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. Merino struck again in the 57th minute, notching his second goal of the night and putting the game firmly in Spain’s hands.
The team’s relentless attack led to a third goal via an unfortunate own goal from Bulgarian defender Atanas Chernev in the 79th minute. Mikel Oyarzabal put the final touch on the scoreboard, converting a penalty in the 90’+2 minute to round out the comprehensive victory.
