Sofyan Amrabat ‘to head to England for Manchester United medical’

Fiorentina has granted permission for Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat to travel to England for a medical examination with Manchester United.

After weeks of rumors, it appears that Manchester United has finally entered into discussions with Fiorentina regarding the 27-year-old player.

Initially, Manchester United proposed a loan arrangement, but this offer was swiftly turned down by Fiorentina. The proposed loan would have guaranteed Fiorentina €1 million (£860,000). However, as per Football Insider, the 20-time English champions have now made significant progress in their pursuit of the Moroccan player, with talks continuing into Wednesday evening.

According to the report, Amrabat is now set to journey to Manchester for a medical assessment, as Erik ten Hag’s team approaches the final stages of securing his signature. Amrabat’s current contract with Fiorentina is set to expire next summer, but the Italian club holds the option to extend it by 12 months, giving them the opportunity to sell him at the end of the upcoming season.

Initially, Manchester United is said to be seeking a loan agreement with Amrabat, likely with an obligation to buy as part of the deal. Fiorentina values the midfielder at approximately £30 million due to his contract situation, and various clubs have been linked with his transfer during the summer transfer market.

Allegedly, Barcelona’s interest in Amrabat began following his prominent role in Morocco’s journey to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Alongside Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool have also been rumored to express interest. However, it seems that Amrabat has consistently prioritized a move to Old Trafford.

According to well-known transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Amrabat has been anticipating a move to Manchester United “since June,” and he has remained the club’s primary target for the midfield position despite ongoing speculation.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding his future, Amrabat is currently not actively participating for Fiorentina. Nonetheless, the former FC Utrecht youngster played a crucial role for his Italian club last season, making 49 appearances across various competitions and aiding his team’s advancement to the finals of the Coppa Italia and Europa Conference League.

Manchester United has already secured three signings during this summer’s transfer window, including Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund. The latter may make his debut in the upcoming Premier League match against Arsenal.
