Serie A leader go 12 points clear at the top
Serie A: Napoli secured a 12-point lead over second-place AC Milan in Serie A by defeating Salernitana.
Giovanni di Lorenzo scored just before halftime, and Victor Osimhen added another in the second half.
Osimhen is now ahead of Inter’s Lautaro Martinez by three goals in the race for the league’s Golden Boot.
Napoli is seeking to end its 33-year championship drought, last winning the Scudetto when Diego Maradona was their captain.
The team, led by Luciano Spalletti, has only lost one league match this season, a 1-0 defeat by Inter Milan earlier this month.
Napoli has previously won the Serie A title twice, in 1986-87 and 1989-90. AC Milan has the opportunity to reduce Napoli’s lead to nine points if they defeat Lazio, who are currently in fourth place, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, third-place Inter faces Empoli on Monday. Juventus is currently in 10th place after a 15-point deduction for past transfer violations.
