Salzburg vs Inter Milan Prediction & Match Preview

Inter aims to continue their winning streak in Group D with a third consecutive victory when they face Salzburg at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday evening.

The Nerazzurri previously defeated the Red Bulls 2-1 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza two weeks ago, and a triumph at the Red Bull Arena would likely secure their spot in the last 16.

Despite the injury setback of defender Benjamin Pavard, who limped off during a 2-1 win over Atalanta last weekend, an away triumph is highly plausible as Inter has been in outstanding form recently.

Conversely, the Austrian champions are determined to keep their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages alive. Given their intent to adopt an attack-minded approach this time, we anticipate that Lautaro Martinez and company will secure victory on the counter.

Notably, a significant number of Salzburg players, including Fernando, Koita, Omoregie, Piatkowski, Terzic, and Wallner, are currently dealing with injuries.

Team News:

Red Bull Salzburg’s injury list includes Bryan Okoh (thigh), Justin Omoregie, Lukas Wallner (both thigh), Fernando (adductors), Kamil Piatkowski (calf), Aleksa Terzic (adductors), Dijon Kameri (buttocks), and Maurits Kjaergaard (shoulder), who recently underwent surgery.

Daouda Guindo is ineligible for Wednesday’s match after being excluded from Salzburg’s Champions League squad. Consequently, the 38-year-old captain, Andreas Ulmer, who is set to retire at the end of the season, is expected to start at left-back.

Oscar Gloukh, who found the net in the previous match against Inter, aims to retain his position in the number 10 role, supporting central striker Konate. Additionally, Mads Bidstrup could be brought back into the midfield alongside Luka Sucic and Lucas Gourna-Douath.

Regarding Inter, the injury concerns continue as Benjamin Pavard was forced to leave the field in the first half of the recent victory over Atalanta due to a knee injury. He joins Marko Arnautovic (thigh) and Juan Cuadrado (Achilles) in the treatment room.

Pavard’s absence is expected to lead to Matteo Darmian filling in on the right side of a back three. Alessandro Bastoni might also make a return to the lineup, likely starting as a left-sided center-back, potentially displacing either Stefan de Vrij or Francesco Acerbi.

Davide Frattesi and Alexis Sanchez, both substitutes in the previous match, are eager to regain their positions in the starting lineup. Sanchez, who started and scored against Salzburg two weeks ago, is in contention to replace Marcus Thuram upfront.
