Ronald Koeman returns as head coach of the Netherlands

Ronald Koeman began his second tenure as head coach of the Netherlands national team and pledged to bring back attractive and attacking football.

He announced that he would return to a formation of four defenders, rather than the three center backs and two wing backs used by his predecessor, Louis van Gaal.

Koeman, who previously coached the team from 2018-2020 and led them to qualify for the European Championship and the Nations League final, expressed a desire to return to the positive play of his first stint.

He acknowledged criticism of van Gaal’s defensive style during the World Cup and stated that he wants to achieve success differently.

Koeman, who previously coached Barcelona before being let go, said he wants to prove himself as a successful coach in major tournaments, starting with the European Championship qualifiers in March.

The Netherlands’ first match in the qualification round is a difficult one, as they will play against World Cup finalists France in Paris on March 24th.
