Robert Lewandowski Lights Up Valencia as Barcelona Starts Strong
Robert Lewandowski showcased his goal-scoring prowess, leading Barcelona to a 2-1 victory over Valencia at Mestalla Stadium.
This match marked the debut of Hansi Flick as Barcelona’s head coach, and the team did not disappoint.
Valencia initially took the lead with a header from Hugo Duro in the 44th minute. However, Barcelona quickly responded, with Lewandowski equalizing in first-half stoppage time after a brilliant assist from teenager Lamine Yamal.
The Polish striker then secured the win by converting a penalty in the 49th minute, following a foul on Raphinha inside the box.
Flick’s first official match in charge saw him utilizing several young talents from Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, including Gerard Martín and 17-year-old Marc Bernal, both making their first-team debuts.
Despite some defensive lapses and an injury to defender Alejandro Balde, Barcelona managed to hold off Valencia’s counter-attacks and secure all three points.
Lewandowski’s performance was a testament to his experience and skill, providing Barcelona with the confidence needed to start the season on a high note. “My objective is to score goals. It’s important to start the season like this to give us more confidence,” Lewandowski said after the match.
Barcelona’s next challenge will be against Athletic Bilbao on August 24th, where they will aim to continue their winning momentum under Flick’s leadership.
