Official: Jorginho joins Arsenal from Chelsea

Arsenal has signed Chelsea midfielder Jorginho for £12 million, ending his 4 and a half year stint at Stamford Bridge where he won Champions League and Europa League titles.

Jorginho has signed a one-and-a-half year contract with the Premier League leaders and will bring competition to the team’s midfield.

The surprise transfer offers Jorginho the chance to win his first Premier League title, as Arsenal currently sits five points clear at the top with a game in hand.

Jorginho, who won Euro 2020 with Italy, adds composure in midfield alongside Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.

With Mohamed Elneny injured, Arteta now has sufficient cover for a critical stretch of fixtures, including a game against title rival Manchester City.

The 31-year-old may make his debut at Everton on Saturday. Jorginho leaves Chelsea having played 231 games, scoring 29 goals, and making 9 assists.

He is the fourth Chelsea player to join Arsenal since 2015, following Petr Cech, David Luiz, and Willian.
