Inter Milan Leadership Bid Thwarted by Resurgent Bologna
Inter Milan are in danger of surrendering their Serie A lead to local rivals AC Milan this Saturday, as they squandered an early two-goal advantage to settle for a 2-2 draw against Bologna.
Under Simone Inzaghi’s leadership, Inter Milan seemed poised to maintain their top position in the Italian league until the international break. This optimism stemmed from Francesco Acerbi and Lautaro Martinez’s impressive goals, both scored within the opening 13 minutes at the San Siro.
However, Bologna’s Riccardo Orsolini converted a penalty just six minutes later, followed by Joshua Zirkee’s excellent finish shortly after half-time. These efforts allowed Bologna to secure a draw and pushed Inter only one point ahead of their rivals, AC Milan.
In the late match on Saturday, Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan will face off against newly-promoted Genoa. Meanwhile, Juventus, currently in fourth place, have an opportunity to narrow the five-point gap that separates them from Inter if they can secure a victory in the derby against Torino.
