Hat-Trick Hero Kane Guides Bayern to 4-0 Statement Win in Dortmund
Harry Kane notched his second consecutive Bundesliga hat-trick and third overall as Bayern Munich made a resounding comeback from their mid-week German Cup disappointment, securing a decisive 4-0 victory against their Bundesliga rivals, Borussia Dortmund.
In a display of sheer dominance, Bayern quickly found themselves two goals ahead within the first nine minutes of the match, seeking redemption following their shocking 2-1 loss to third-tier Saarbrücken in the Cup just days earlier.
Center-back Dayot Upamecano, who had returned from injury, broke the deadlock for Bayern in the fourth minute, nodding in a powerful header from Leroy Sane’s well-delivered corner kick. Five minutes later, Leon Goretzka, also back from injury, breezed through the midfield unopposed, passing the ball to Sane, whose low cross from the left was expertly converted by Kane.
The England captain added another to his tally in the 72nd minute, finishing off a delivery from Kingsley Coman, and then sealed the victory in stoppage time, moving to the top of the Bundesliga’s goal scorers’ list with 15 goals in 10 games. His recent hat-trick followed a remarkable 8-0 dismantling of Darmstadt and a previous one in a 7-0 win over Bochum.
With this win, Bayern closed the gap to just two points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who managed a 3-2 victory against Hoffenheim on the same day. Notably, the top two teams have remained unbeaten throughout the season.
Meanwhile, Dortmund, in fourth place, experienced their first league defeat of the season, finding themselves seven points adrift from the top and still winless against Bayern in their last ten Bundesliga encounters.
