Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris announces France retirement

Hugo Lloris, France’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper and captain, announced his retirement from international football at the age of 36.

Lloris, who is also a goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspur, cited a desire to spend more time with his family as the reason for his retirement.

He holds the record for most appearances for France, with 145, and for most times captaining the team, with 121.

Lloris made his international debut in 2008 and played in the European Championship in 2012, 2016, and 2020, as well as the World Cup tournaments in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022.

He led France to victory in the 2018 World Cup and took them to the final in 2022, where they lost to Argentina.
