The 26-year-old midfielder has signed a six-year contract with the Catalan giants, keeping him at the club until 2030. The deal includes a guaranteed fee of €55 million, with an additional €7 million in performance-related add-ons.
Olmo’s return to Barcelona comes after a successful stint in the Bundesliga, where he played a crucial role for RB Leipzig. Last season, he made 25 appearances, scoring 8 goals and providing 5 assists, despite being sidelined for 20 games due to shoulder and knee injuries. His versatility allows him to play in various positions, including on the flanks, as an attacking midfielder, or even as a forward.
Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, now has a wealth of options in the attacking midfield and forward positions, with Olmo joining the likes of Pedri, Ilkay Gundogan, and Fermin Lopez. The competition for places is expected to be fierce, but Olmo’s experience and talent will undoubtedly be a valuable asset for the team.
Olmo’s signing is Barcelona’s first major acquisition of the summer, following the arrival of Pau Victor from Girona for €2.5 million. The club also recently secured a deal with Aramark, injecting €40 million into their accounts, which has helped facilitate this high-profile transfer.
As Barcelona fans eagerly await Olmo’s debut, the club will be working to ensure his registration is completed smoothly, avoiding any delays that have affected previous signings. With Olmo’s arrival, Barcelona aims to strengthen their squad and compete at the highest level in both domestic and European competitions.
