Crystal Palace won the FA Community Shield for the first time in their history, defeating Liverpool 3-2 in a penalty shootout on Saturday after the season curtain-raiser ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw at Wembley Stadium.

Palace stormed into an early lead, stunning the Premier League champions with two goals in the opening 17 minutes. Hugo Ekitike found the net just four minutes into the match, and Jean-Philippe Mateta converted a penalty in the 17th minute to double the advantage for the Eagles.

Liverpool fought back, with Jeremie Frimpong pulling a goal back in the 21st minute to cut the deficit. The Reds pressed for an equalizer and were rewarded in the second half when Ismaïla Sarr scored in the 67th minute to level the match at 2-2.
With no further goals, the match went directly to a penalty shootout where Crystal Palace held their nerve to secure the historic victory and claim the first piece of silverware of the new English football season.
