Atletico Madrid Close to Signing Julián Álvarez from Manchester City
Atletico Madrid is on the verge of securing an agreement to sign Manchester City forward Julián Álvarez.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Argentina international is eager to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer after playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland for two years.
Personal terms are not expected to be an issue, and Atletico Madrid is negotiating a final payment structure with Man City.
Julián Álvarez, who joined Man City from River Plate in 2022 for €21.4 million, is set to command a minimum fee of €81 million for his move to the Wanda Metropolitano.
His impressive performance last season, with 19 goals and 13 assists in 59 appearances, helped Man City secure their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
However, the 24-year-old forward is now pushing for a fresh start in Spain1.
Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal have also shown interest in Alvarez, but Atletico Madrid appears close to finalizing the deal.
This transfer could have implications for Chelsea as well. With Alvarez’s arrival, Atletico has softened their stance on selling 20-year-old Samu Omorodion, and Chelsea hopes to secure a move for around €40 million. Additionally, Atletico is on the verge of signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher
