Arsenal Miss Chance to Top Premier League After Defeat to West Ham

Arsenal missed the chance to return to the top of the Premier League as they slipped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat against West Ham United on Wednesday night.

The Gunners needed victory to replace Liverpool at the summit but were left frustrated by David Moyes’ side, who secured their first win at the Emirates Stadium in 73 attempts.

West Ham took the lead in controversial circumstances in the first half when Tomas Soucek’s strike was awarded after VAR intervened to rule that the ball had not gone out of play in the build-up.

The Hammers doubled their advantage in the second half through a Konstantinos Mavropanos header, and Arsenal’s misery was compounded when Said Benrahma saw a late penalty saved by David Raya.

The defeat leaves Arsenal in 2 place in the table, four points behind leaders Liverpool, while West Ham move up to 6th.
