Arsenal Complete Transfer of Bologna’s Calafiori

Arsenal has finalized the acquisition of Italian international Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

The Gunners announced that the 22-year-old has inked a “long-term contract” at the Emirates Stadium.

Manager Mikel Arteta conveyed to Arsenal’s website: “We extend a warm welcome to Riccardo Calafiori and his family. He is a significant addition, bolstering our defensive line with immense strength.

“Riccardo exudes a formidable personality and character, possessing unique attributes that will enhance our quest for major silverware. His remarkable progression over recent seasons, both with Bologna and the Italian national team, underscores his impressive development.

“We eagerly anticipate collaborating with Riccardo, assimilating him into our squad, and supporting his growth in the years ahead.”

Expressing his delight, Calafiori stated, “I’m ecstatic to be here. The wait was substantial.

“I aspire for us to achieve something extraordinary this season.”

The transfer is reportedly valued at £42 million, inclusive of add-ons.

Arsenal’s sporting director Edu remarked: “This transfer is the result of a tremendous team effort, and we welcome Riccardo to our fold.

“We identified Riccardo as a key part of our strategy to recruit players who align with our profile and strengthen our squad to compete at the apex level. Despite his youth at 22, he brings a blend of quality and experience. He will seamlessly evolve into an Arsenal player.

“Riccardo has consistently demonstrated his prowess for both his club and country. He was among the standout performers in Serie A last season and delivered robust performances for Italy in the Euros this summer. Mikel and our coaching staff are enthusiastic about integrating Riccardo, and we all look forward to seeing him don our colors.”
