Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong picked up an incredibly harsh red card vs Cadiz
There was quite a bit of controversy surrounding Frenkie de Jong’s red card in the match against Cadiz.
The Barcelona midfielder received two yellow cards within a span of four minutes, which led to his dismissal from the game.
The second yellow card, which resulted in the red, was particularly contentious as many felt it was an overly harsh decision by the referee.
De Jong had taken a heavy touch and while stretching to retrieve the ball, he made contact with a Cadiz player.
Although he got a toe to the ball and seemed to pull out of the tackle to avoid injuring the opponent, the referee deemed the challenge worthy of a second yellow card.
