Chelsea claimed a hard-fought 2-0 win against their West London rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge, in a match marked by key VAR decisions. Goals from João Pedro and Enzo Fernández sealed the victory for the Blues.
The first half was a tense affair, and just as it seemed destined to end scoreless, Chelsea broke the deadlock deep into stoppage time. In the ninth minute of added time, João Pedro rose highest to head home a corner from Enzo Fernández, giving the home side a crucial lead right before the interval. This was Pedro’s fifth goal in six games for the club.
Early in the second half, Chelsea were awarded a penalty after a lengthy VAR review determined that a cross had struck the arm of Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon inside the box. In the 56th minute, Enzo Fernández stepped up to the spot and confidently converted the penalty, drilling his shot down the middle to double Chelsea’s advantage.
The match was not without controversy, as Fulham had a goal from Joshua King disallowed by VAR in the first half for a foul in the build-up. Ultimately, Chelsea’s clinical finishing proved to be the difference, securing them the three points.
