Liverpool’s Pursuit of Federico Chiesa: A Boost for the Reds’ Attack?
Liverpool is reportedly gearing up to make a substantial offer for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.
As Jurgen Klopp seeks to strengthen the forward line, the Reds are prepared to open negotiations with a bid of around £30 million1.
Chiesa, who can play across the forward three positions, has been on Klopp’s radar for some time. However, there’s a caveat: the Italian winger’s injury record.
This season, he has started in only five league matches due to muscle, knee, and fitness issues. Throughout his Juventus career, Chiesa has grappled with recurring injuries, having started in just 17 league matches across his last two campaigns with the Italian club.
When fully fit, though, Chiesa has the potential to be one of the best wingers in Europe.
Juventus originally acquired him from Fiorentina for around £42 million.
Recent reports suggest that Chiesa is “unhappy” at Juventus and no longer feels like the “center of the project” at his current club. If he were to make the switch to Liverpool, he would face stiff competition from the likes of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz.
Squad depth will be crucial for Liverpool next season as they also contend with the Europa League.
Klopp’s side aims to secure a top-four finish, and someone like Chiesa could prove valuable in that pursuit.
