Erling Haaland treble helps Manchester City win over Wolves
Erling Haaland’s hat trick in a 14-minute span around halftime led Manchester City to a 3-0 win over Wolverhampton on Sunday.
This marked his fourth Premier League hat trick of the season, bringing his total goals to 25, surpassing the 23 goals scored by last season’s Golden Boot winners, Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min.
This achievement was all the more impressive as it came in just 19 matches, compared to the previous record of 65 appearances held by former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The win came after coach Pep Guardiola had delivered a stern message to the team and fans after a previous match, and the crowd and City’s performance seemed to respond.
Haaland opened the scoring with a header, then added a second from the penalty spot, and completed his hat trick with a calm finish. He was subbed out to a standing ovation in the 61st minute.
