Arsenal’s Wasteful Touch Sends Liverpool Cruising Into FA Cup Fourth Round

Arsenal’s profligacy in front of goal proved costly once again as Liverpool claimed a 2-0 victory in the FA Cup third round at a raucous Emirates Stadium. Despite dominating large stretches of the game, the Gunners failed to convert numerous chances, allowing the Reds to punish them with late strikes from an own goal by Jakub Kiwior and Luis Diaz.

Mikel Arteta’s men started brightly, with Reiss Nelson nearly opening the scoring inside three minutes, but his shot from a tight angle found only the side netting. Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard both came close with curling efforts, while Alisson Becker kept out Ben White’s fierce drive. Liverpool threatened sporadically, but it was Arsenal who continued to pile on the pressure.

Trent Alexander-Arnold nearly provided a masterclass in finishing, his ferocious strike rattling the crossbar just before Nunez narrowly missed with a shot from a tight angle. The chances kept flowing for Arsenal, with Odegaard finding Havertz, whose cross was volleyed over by Bukayo Saka. Just as the Emirates crowd began to feel a sense of anxiety, the Reds struck. Alexander-Arnold whipped in a dangerous free-kick, and Kiwior’s unfortunate deflection put Liverpool ahead.

Despite desperately pushing for an equalizer, Arsenal found their efforts in vain. In the dying moments, Nunez and Diogo Jota combined to find Diaz, who unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner to seal the win for Liverpool.

This victory not only ends Liverpool’s three-game losing streak against Arsenal in the FA Cup but also extends the Gunners’ winless run to three games in all competitions. While the Reds head to Anfield for the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final against Fulham, Arsenal embark on a warm-weather training camp. With their title ambitions seemingly dwindling, Arteta’s men will need to rediscover their clinical edge if they are to salvage anything from a disappointing season.
